Phil Harwood is an attorney, entrepreneur, and business consultant with over four decades of experience working with business owners as they face a variety of legal issues, including personal estate planning, business succession planning, valuation, entity formation, and business-related legal matters. He is the founder of Tamarisk Legal Advisors PLLC.

As an attorney at Tamarisk, Phil’s practice areas include estate planning and business law, with a focus on closely-held businesses. Phil is a member of the State Bar of Michigan Probate and Estate Planning Section, State Bar of Michigan Business Law Section LLC & Partnership Committee, and Grand Rapids Bar Association Probate Section.

In addition to Tamarisk Legal Advisors, Phil serves as Senior Advisor for Tamarisk Business Advisors LLC, in which he helps business owners prepare to exit their business, whether through a sale of their shares or generational transfer. Over the last twenty years, Phil has founded five companies, acquired one company, and sold three companies. These roles have enabled Phil to bring real-life experience and best practices to Tamarisk, allowing him to better meet his clients’ needs.

Phil is a native of Grand Rapids, where he worked in his family business and played sports (baseball, football, tennis, golf, and ice hockey). Phil and Cindy, his wife of over 40 years, live in Grand Rapids Township. They have two grown children and four grandchildren. Phil and Cindy attend Ada Bible Church and support a variety of local and global ministries, including Christian Radio (93.1 WCSG).

Phil obtained a Juris Doctor from Cooley Law School, graduating magna cum laude and third in his class. He also is a graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing and Executive Masters in Business Administration degree.
